Chess in Schools Program is an initiative which aims to develop and promote chess in schools, recognizing the cognitive and social benefits chess brings to young minds, including critical thinking, memory enhancement, and analytical skills.
In 2024 key highlights of the program include:
• Hosted the National Schools Chess League with equal representation of boys' and girls' teams, promoting gender equality.
• Conducted third phase of the Pyxus/Alliance One to expand reach and reduce child labor in tobacco-growing areas. 8 schools were engaged competing in the inter-school championship at Kamuzu College of Nursing Lilongwe Campus
• Trained 20 school patrons to sustain chess programs in schools.
• Sponsored six students to represent Malawi at the African Youth Chess Championship in South Africa in June 2024.
• Distributed chess sets to 200 schools nationwide.
